About The Park
Fort Chiswell Animal Park is a 45-acre free range zoo located off Exit 80 on I-81 in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The zoo is home to animals from six continents and has become a favorite destination for families, schools, churches, and group travel tours.
Your admission to Fort Chiswell Animal Park includes your guided safari tour. By bus, you'll come nose-to-nose with zebras, camels, bison, ostrich and more. See the famous wildebeest and learn why you don't want to drive your car through the park! It's a fun-filled adventure you'll never forget and it's all included with your armband. Discounts available for groups of 15 or more.
Fort Chiswell Animal Park also offers Zoo-To-You programs throughout the school year. The 2010 program entitled "Reptiles: Why We Need Them" focuses on the amazing world of reptiles and their importance to the environment. As you meet reptiles from around the world, including a giant African tortoise, you'll learn the needs of each and why we need reptiles as much as they need us. The program reinforces concepts of the Virginia Standards of Learning and is a fun and interactive way to bring learning to life in your classroom, church, or organization. Teacher packets available.
The goal of Fort Chiswell Animal Park is to reconnect a busy world with the natural one, believing that the health and preservation of each depends on the other. It's the zoo where the animals want to see you and hope you'll spend the day. So remember your camera, bring a picnic lunch, and prepare to meet some of the friendliest animals on the planet. You'll be glad you did!
