King Snake

From the genus Lampropeltis, Kingsnakes are found from southern Canada through northern South America. They range from three to seven feet in length depending on the species and are quite varied in their coloring. Their looks combined with their comparatively mild temperament make them one of the most kept snakes in the pet industry. Unfortunately, these same looks often get them killed in the wild as many people assume they are poisonous. A well cared for Kingsnake can live up to 20 years in captivity. They are constricting snakes and eat small mammals, birds and even other snakes including poisonous snakes. Their ability to eat other poisonous snakes is where they get their name.
